Tisdale Demolition has grown steadily since it was established in the early 1980’s by Managing Director Jimmy Tisdale. We take pride in the quality of the service which we provide coupled with our systematic approach to both Quality and Environmental Management , as such we took the decision to seek registration to the ISO series of management standards. During 2004 we have successfully achieved registration to what is now ISO 9001:2008 for our Quality Management Systems and registration to ISO 14001:2004 for our Environmental Management Systems. As the company profile grew, we progressed to becoming a member of National Federation of Demolition Contractors early in 2007.
As our Health and Safety Management Systems matured, we raised our profile still further with accreditation under the Contractors Health and Safety Scheme (CHAS) which is a widely respected health and safety competency assessment scheme supported by industry through several trades associations. This was then further enhanced when we successfully completed registered with Constructionline, which is a nationwide register of pre-qualified local and national construction and construction related suppliers.
Tisdale Demolition is a first generation demolition company, where many of the other firms in the area are third or fourth generation, being a relatively new contractor makes it easy for us to adapt to the requirements of a Demolition company in the 21st century.
As is often the case, Tisdales started initially as a subcontractor to larger demolition companies in the North West. By the mid-1980s the company was taking on its own contracts and building relationships with blue chip main contractors such as Wimpey and Tarmac.
In 1989 we secured a substantial project with Mowlem in Manchester for the Metrolink tram. That was a two year project we put us on firm foundations to move forward and allowed us to develop our market share and become recognised for our achievements and for the quality of our service. By the late 1980’s Tisdales had progressed to the local authority preferred contractor lists and the company became a Limited Company in 1990.
We made steady progress from there and currently have an annual turnover of £2 million, from £800,000 in 2000. We have a core workforce of 20 competent and appropriately qualified demolition operatives, and can also call upon a further 10 external operatives who can be engaged, as required, to work to our own internal stringent working guidelines. We operate our own specialist, heavy demolition plant and equipment consisting of: 6 Nº. 360º excavators varying from 14 to 40 tonne operating weight, with specialist attachment to suit including; grapples, magnet fittings, scissor lifts, hydraulic and impact breakers, shears, pulverisers and a 24 meter high reach demolition rig. We can also call upon additional specialist machinery, which can be delivered/transported to each site, as and when.
The
purchase of the shears, was a significant part of the strategy to expand our portfolio into reclamation work, in particular; the dismantling of steel structures, cranes, bridges and the like,. The purchase immediately paid dividends as it was used substantially in steelwork demolition in quarries and in the city’s docks. Moving forward our goal is now to move into the petrochemical industry, where our knowledge and experience of metals recycling will come to the fore.
In 2006 we invested approximately £500,000 in new plant and machines which will be replaced or upgraded every 3-4 years. More recent investments saw the purchase of; a Liebherr 954 with a shear and a brand new Hyundai with high reach equipment. Steady progress is very much the name of the game for Tisdales!
Demand is strong as the company’s brand has been recognised as a professional business and its reputation is doing much of the legwork!
